Chur – the alpine city
Chur is the oldest city in Switzerland and the capital of the canton of Graubünden.
Guided tours & City walks
As the oldest city in Switzerland and an important bishop’s seat, the streets and houses of the Altstadt (old town) have a lot to tell. Explore Chur accompanied by tour guides, by audio guide, or with an expert, who can offer special tours about water, Chur Cathedral, Haldenstein Castle, and much more.
The guided tours can be perfectly combined with a delicious meal. Discover the culinary specialities of Chur, such as the Alpenstadt Torte (alpine city tart), Mutschli (cheese), Salzis (uncooked sausage) or the spicy Churer Röteli (cherry liqueur). Every Saturday from April until October, the weekly market turns the town into a large marketplace.
Wide range of art and culture
The alpine city of Chur offers a wide range of art and culture. For example, the three major museums of Graubünden are in Chur: the Raetian Museum, dedicated to the history of the canton, the Graubünden art gallery which includes works by Alberto Giacometti, and the natural history museum with its large collection of animals, fossils and minerals. Visit the Theatre Chur or the Klibühni (small stage) theatre for cultural events.
With its many cafés and shops, the traffic-free historic town centre invites you to linger and to go on a shopping spree. Shopping centres in the outskirts complete the eclectic shopping opportunities. The Landquart fashion outlet is just a 10-minute drive from Chur. It offers over 160 designer brands in a beautiful village centre, and is also open on Sundays.
The Alpine City of Chur offers many other possibilities and activities. Discover the capital of Graubünden and let yourself be enchanted by its charm and picturesque landscape.
