Discovery Weekend

Winter athletes with intellectual disabilities and their environment (coaches, caregivers, families).

On the Discovery Day / Weekend, athletes with intellectual disabilities receive appropriate competition training (regularity race, timekeeping) under expert guidance, while at the same time learning about the Special Olympics sports philosophy. Community activities also promote social interaction.

Skiers and snowboarders are welcome at the Discovery Weekend 2026, regardless of whether you are a beginner or an expert. The ski & snowboard race will be judged according to the uniformity method (2 runs).

Program schedule 13 - 15 March 2026
The program for the Discovery Weekend 2026 will be published shortly. 

The training groups will be supervised by local snow sports instructors and the coaching staff of the Arosa Ski Club.

There are no costs for the athletes for the Discovery Day. The services are financed by the Arosa Fund. There is a low-cost flat rate for accompanying persons. Overnight stays can also be booked at special rates.

2025
On January 25, 2025, the second Discovery Day was held in Arosa thanks to the money raised by the Arosa Fund. Once again, more than 30 participants came together to improve their skiing and snowboarding skills and experience an unforgettable day together. 

2024
On January 27, 2024, the first snow day took place in Arosa thanks to the money already collected from the Arosa Fund. More than 30 participants were able to gain their first experience of skiing or snowboarding in Arosa during a competition training session. The project is designed for the long term and will take place annually with a view to the 2029 World Winter Games.

Doing good together
As the venue for the 2029 World Winter Games, Arosa has set up a fund for donations together with Special Olympics Switzerland. Together we are supporting mentally impaired people on their way to the World Winter Games 2029.
