«Women. Power. Race.»
Next weekend, the world's best female alpine skiing athletes will be competing for hundredths of a second and important World Cup points. The programme includes a super-G on Saturday, 5 March 2022, and a giant slalom with two runs on Sunday, 6 March 2022. The recently awarded Olympic heroes from Switzerland will also be taking part: Corinne Suter, Michelle Gisin, Wendy Holdener and Lara Gut-Behrami. They are all not only candidates for the regular World Cup awards, but also for a new Lenzerheide-own additional trophy, including a special honour. A section of the World Cup piste is to be named after the female skier who scores the most World Cup points in both disciplines over the race weekend in Lenzerheide.

After two men now a woman
It is nothing new that the organizers in Lenzerheide name sections of the World Cup piste after people. Already at last year's Audi FIS Ski World Cup Final, two sections were named in honour of SRF radio legend Bernhard «Berni» Schär and local World Cup veteran and Olympic champion Heini Hemmi. Both the «Schär Wende» and the «Hemmi Kuppa» were inaugurated by the two namesakes in the run-up to the final. Now it is definitely a woman's turn.

The «Traverse» it shall be
Directly after the already well-known «Älpli-S» and before the «Wanner» section, the so-called «Traverse» will be introduced as a section on the Silvano Beltrametti World Cup course. The «Traverse» is a change of terrain after the «Älpli-S». This section is sloping and must be caught by the skiers on the optimum line so that the speed can be carried into the last section "Wanner" and time is not lost unnecessarily. A perfect section that reflects the motto «Women. Power. Race». fully underlines the motto.

Honours on Sunday - but limited in time
The honouring of the best female ski racer over the Lenzerheide weekend will take place on Sunday, 6 March, following the official award ceremony of the giant slalom in the finish area in Parpan. Luana Bergamin will be presented with a trophy, and the «Traverse» will henceforth bear the name of the winner. But not forever: the idea is that the next time a Women's Ski World Cup is held in Lenzerheide, the naming of the section of the course will be reassigned. This will again honour the best Swiss athlete, and the «Traverse» will bear the name of another female ski racer. A well-deserved recognition of the immense achievements of the female athletes and their teams.
