Lenzerheide tests the entire World Cup squad
The entire World Cup squad will be tested during the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Final 2021 in Lenzerheide. This was decided by the organizers at the beginning of the race week. From Wednesday to Sunday, the last nine World Cup races of the 2020/21 season will take place on the Silvano Beltrametti slope.
Instead of a large spectator stand at the finish with lots of supporting programme and parties, the focus of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Final this year is solely on holding Corona-compliant World Cup races without spectators. This succeeds on the one hand thanks to the protection concepts that have been well tested in the season so far, but on the other hand also thanks to large-scale mass tests. After the women's team arriving from Åre been already tested on Sunday using rapid antigen tests, the procedure will be repeated this Thursday for all athletes and their staff present. All persons with a minimum stay of four days will be tested. All other persons are covered by PCR tests, which are valid for 48 hours after entry. The tests on Sunday were all negative.
Fast and effective: rapid antigen tests
Rapid antigen tests react qualitatively to viral antigens and deliver a result within 15 to 30 minutes. To do this, a swab is taken from the back of the nose. The rapid tests are less sensitive than PCR tests, but absolutely reliable, validated by Swissmedic and approved by the Federal Council. The results of the rapid antigen tests are quickly available and independent of expensive laboratory equipment.
Staff and media also tested
The entire organizing committee of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Final has been taking part in the operational tests of the canton of Graubünden since last Friday. To make the entire process as efficient as possible, PCR saliva tests are being used for this purpose. With the help of these tests, as many asymptomatic persons as possible can be detected and infection chains can thus be interrupted at an early stage. In addition to the organizers, the media representatives present are also obliged to present a negative PCR test during accreditation.
