Ski World Cup Finals comes back to Lenzerheide in 2021

The FIS has decided: The Audi FIS Ski World Cup Final 2021 will take place in Lenzerheide. At today's final presentation during the traditional autumn meeting of the FIS in Zurich, Lenzerheide prevailed against the Bulgarian winter sports resort Bansko with 11: 3 votes. The Ski World Cup Final returns to the Grrisons holiday region after seven years. Michi Bont, president of the club Lenzerheide World Cup and head of the Lenzerheide candidacy, is overjoyed: "We are very happy that we succeeded as a team to bring the finals back to our homeland".

The Swiss Ski Federation Swiss-Ski is also pleased about the commitment: "Lenzerheide has already demonstrated its snow sports and event expertise several times. We look forward to celebrating the season finale in Switzerland soon, "emphasizes Markus Wolf, Managing Director of Swiss-Ski. A certain amount of uncertainty remains: today's decision must be officially approved by the FIS Council. Although this is usually only a matter of form, those responsible in Lenzerheide are "burnt children". "The award for the Ski World Cup Finals 2017 has failed in the final decision of the FIS Council," recalls Michi Bont.

Lenzerheide has already been the venue for the alpine ski racers' season finale five times and since the first event in March 2005 has decisively shaped the successful development of the Ski World Cup Final. After the candidacies for the final races in 2017 and 2019 failed, the future of the Ski World Cup in Lenzerheide was uncertain. Together with the municipalities, tourism associations, the Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG and Lenzerheide Marketing and Support AG, the club World Cup Lenzerheide has temporarily decided to hold individual World Cup races.

The execution of these races was always intended as a short-term bridging strategy. In particular, in order to maintain the accumulated know-how within the OC and the entire Lenzerheide holiday region. The long-term strategy of the club World Cup Lenzerheide still provides for a recurring performance of the Ski World Cup Finals in Lenzerheide. "Today's decision for the Ski World Cup Final 2021 is now a first step," emphasizes Michi Bont. However, the ski fans do not have to wait until 2021: on the weekend of 27./28. January 2018, the Audi FIS Ski World Cup will be appearing for two women's races in Lenzerheide.
