Successful World Cup weekend
This year's Audi FIS Ski World Cup Lenzerheide is history. Around 13,000 spectators watched the two-day race weekend on 5 and 6 March 2022 live on site. The organizers drew a thoroughly positive balance. Not least thanks to the Swiss successes, which made the ski fans cheer and celebrate at the finish line. Away from the World Cup action, Michelle Gisin was also honoured as the best Swiss skier in Lenzerheide and is now the proud representative of the «Micken Traverse» on the Silvano Beltrametti World Cup course.
For the tenth time, the Women's Ski World Cup (excluding the finals) made a stop in the Lenzerheide holiday region. Under the motto «Women. Power. Race.», a super-G was held on Saturday, 5 March 2022, and a giant slalom on Sunday, 6 March 2022, on the Silvano Beltrametti World Cup course on the Heimberg in the Arosa Lenzerheide ski resort. The athletes had exciting competitions for hundredths of a second and important World Cup points. In the Super-G on Saturday, Romane Miradoli (FRA) triumphed with the first World Cup podium of her career, ahead of Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) and Lara Gut-Behrami (SUI). And also on Sunday in the Giant Slalom, victory went to a Frenchwoman, namely Tessa Worley. Federica Brignone (ITA) came second and Sara Hector (SWE) third.
Top weather, top slope, top atmosphere
After the organizers in Lenzerheide had to contend with bad weather last year - on the occasion of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals 2021 - which resulted in the cancellation of all speed disciplines, the weather during the last World Cup weekend could not have been better. The joy among the ski fans was correspondingly great. The Silvano Beltrametti World Cup course, which had been watered and continuously prepared from the beginning of February in order to provide an optimal base, was also in excellent condition. In addition to the exciting races and an attractive supporting programme with DJ sets and a concert, the visit of Roger Federer will probably be remembered as a highlight of the race weekend. Not only the spectators at the World Cup were over the moon about his presence, but also the athletes, as various snapshots on their social media channels show. The popular tennis star, who owns a house in Valbella, is virtually a «local» in Lenzerheide and did not miss a visit to the home races - much to the delight of the ski and tennis fans present.
The «Micken Traverse» is named
The Swiss ski racers were not only contenders for the regular World Cup awards last World Cup weekend, but also for a new Lenzerheide-own additional trophy, including a special honour. A section of the World Cup piste was named after the female skier who scored the most World Cup points in both disciplines during the race weekend in Lenzerheide: Michelle Gisin. The "Micken Traverse" is now named after her nickname "Micken". The honour took place on Sunday, 6 March, following the official award ceremony of the giant slalom in the finish area in Parpan. «Within the team, we already had a little fight for this rate. I'm delighted that I can now hold it in my hand,» said Michelle Gisin at the award ceremony, who received the trophy with the inscription «Swiss Lenzerheide Ski Champion 2022» from OC President Luana Bergamin.
