For Sun Lovers

The Arosa Bucket List for magical moments of light

For many, the sun’s rays are the elixir of life. The Arosa sun makes it easy for us to offer you unique experiences which must, without doubt, be included in this bucket list.

#1: Planet Trail

As well as the sun, the planets also shine in Arosa. On the Planet Trail from Prätschli to Rot Tritt, you can learn everything about Mars, Uranus and Venus and, at the same time, enjoy the real sun on an enjoyable hike.

#2: Sun loungers at the mountain restaurants

The sun loungers are not only hotly sought after in winter. In summer too, you can lean back and relax on the comfortable wooden sun loungers at the Alpenblick mountain restaurant, for example, and top up your vitamin D.

#3: Bonfire on the national holiday

There are bonfires at many places on the national holiday. But they are not like the special bonfire from SAC Arosa. On the day, the members set off to ensure you have a breath-taking view of the mountain peaks from the Postplatz on the evening of the national holiday. Almost every mountain peak is illuminated with torches, Swiss crosses are planted or entire mountainsides illuminated. Take a seat by the Obersee lake and enjoy the natural light show - a magical experience for young and old.

#4: Sunrise bike tour

What could be better than enjoying the sunrise at the Weisshorn over breakfast with a bike guide and then testing out the descent to Chur, to Lenzerheide and back to Arosa in the best light conditions. The Sunrise Bike Tour is aimed at expert mountain bikers who would like to book an unforgettable bike tour with a guide. Have fun!

#5: Sunrise on the Maran Hauptji

Arosa has an unbelievably high number of solid wooden benches. These benches offer the perfect opportunity to let the mountain sunset work its magic on you in peace. Take a pleasant hiking trail from Prätschli, for example, and in approx. one hour, you will be at the Maran Hauptji. Sit down and watch it go down.

#6: Mushroom foraging in the Lichterwald forest

From the 10th of each month, it is time for mushroom hunters to head into the forest and keep a look out for delicate chanterelle or porcini mushrooms at dawn. Of course, we can’t reveal the best spots for mushroom foragers otherwise we would get into trouble with the local “expert foragers”. But we have one tip: on the evening beforehand, visit a small inn and speak to the locals. Maybe they will share some good advice over a tasty Arosa beer.

#7: The Weisshorn

Whether you take a guided sunrise walk or travel up early in the morning with the Arosa-Weisshorn cable car. The Weisshorn, the 2,653 metre high local mountain, is the best place to see the Arosa sunrise. Combined with the well-deserved and, at the same time, unbeatable tasty Gipfel Z’Morga, this is the perfect start to a summer’s day in the mountains.

#8: Medergen Friends of Nature House

Nature lovers set off from Langwies or from Arosa with a well-packed rucksack to hike through the varied mountain forests on the way to their accommodation. From both sides, you reach the self-catered hut with a hike of approximately 1.5 hours and you are rewarded with a unique view of the Schanfigg valley and Arosa. Now slice up the delicate sausage or Alpine cheese you have brought with you and enjoy the sun’s rays.

#9: Langwies Viewpoint

What a view; the Langwies view. From Arosa, a pleasant hiking trail with no major ascents leads immediately behind the rope park to the Langwies Viewpoint. Sit down on the bench, enjoy the silence and let the moment work its magic.

Tip: Since there are not many flat jogging routes in Arosa, this tour is the best option for an early jogging circuit in the idyllic morning light.

#10: Forest Theatre

And there’s more! The Forest Theatre, surrounded by trees, yet still with enough light to see a presentation of Arosa culture on selected dates. Whether for a concert or a play, the Theatre is just a few minutes on foot from the Zentrum [Centre] bus stop almost in the heart of the village, yet it is still fully in nature. Be inspired by the cultural programme and the natural illumination.
