Strong swiss performances at the IBU Youth & Junior World Championships Biathlon

A lot was going on from January 23rd until the 2nd of February ath the Biathlon Arena in Lantsch/Lenz. During the IBU Youth & Junior World Championships Biathlon about 500 athletes and 300 staff members from 43 nations competed. Among them people from Brazil, Mongolia as well as New Zealand, setting  a new record in terms of size and international participation compared to last year and making sure the accomodations within the holiday region were fully booked. Sixteen competitions in seven days could be held smoothly with only one interruption due to heavy snowfall. A big thank you is due to the over 350 volunteers who have contributed a lot and have made this successful event possible.

After four days of competition, the Swiss team scored a gold and two bronze medals. On the first day it was Lea Meier who scored a gold medal, winning her category  Youth Women over 10 kilometres. Sebastian Stalder and Amy Baserga came in third in their respective categories of 15 and 12.5 kilometres "Junior Women" and "Junior Men" Even though the Swiss team didn't win any more medals, their performance was still impressive as they often competed as the youngest athletes in their categories and measured up to world cup experiences athletes and could still score top 10 rankings.

Number of spectators  exceeded expectations
The organizers were aimimng for 5000 spectators but in the end the 7000 spectators exceeded their expectations by far. Also the live stream by the swiss national television was successfuly  broadcasting the event in seven different nations.«We are very happy that after the FIS Tour de Ski in December 2019 we were able to carry out a second big winter event.
