Hänsel-Grettina

Hansel and Gretel is one of the most famous fairy tales of all time and has always held an incredible fascination for young and old alike with its simple yet profound story. Engelbert Humperdinck also transformed this fairy tale into a grand opera in the style of Wagner. In contrast, he also wove many folk songs into the story to emphasise its childlike character.

The OPERETTA ARDEZ ensemble, together with director Ivo Bärtsch and under the musical direction of Zoi Tsokanou, will expand and enrich the well-known piece in the usual manner with music by G. Bizet, F. Lehar, L. Bernstein, Mani Matter and Rhaeto-Romanic folk songs, as well as pieces from pop and popular music such as Queen, Céline Dion or Cat Stevens and some flashbacks to the parents' lives. With the music specially arranged for this production by Duri Collenberg and the multilingual text version, the family-friendly opera is given a new look for everyone, whether big or small, accustomed to opera, a lover of folk songs or pop music. The witch in this production is not a man and sings in Züridütsch, that much can be revealed at this point. The Waldbühne Arosa is predestined for this play and surprises, humour and entertainment are guaranteed.
